Reconditioned stair lifts are often a very cost effective option, and can be supplied and fitted by all the popular manufacturers.
Straight stair lifts are also available to rent, for short or long term hire. Stair lift rentals are only available on straight stair lifts as curved

Restricted mobility is an issue that affects a large number of elderly and disabled individuals in Great Britain. It can result in a loss of independence and can even limit what that person is able to do in their own home.
Stairs in particular can prove a huge obstacle, with a risk of falling and serious injury. This can lead to a great deal of frustration not only for the individual, but also for concerned family members.
If you are in a situation where your limited mobility (or that of a loved one) is causing you a great deal of distress, then it is likely that a chair lift would be a realistic and affordable solution. It is advisable to consult with an Occupational Therapist (OT) on this issue, as they will be able to offer guidance on the best course of action for your specific requirements.
If you have trouble getting around and struggle with stairs in particular, then it is possible that you may benefit from having a stairlift fitted in your home. However, this is obviously a big decision - one that involves making considerable alterations to your home, so it is wise to make sure that a stairlift is for you before going ahead with a purchase.
An Occupational Therapist (OT) will be able to give you professional advice regarding your mobility, and other options may be explored before you ultimately decide that a stairlift is the best way to go forward.
There are a number of questions you should ask yourself before buying a
chair lift.
Do you have enough hand dexterity to handle a stairlift remote control? Or might an alternative method, such as a joystick or toggle, be required?
Are there any potential obstructions near the staircase, such as doors or thresholds of any kind, banister rails or radiators? If there are, then a hinged track may be needed. A stairlift track absolutely has to extend beyond the staircase and onto the floor, in order for the user to alight. If you have a hinged track fitted, then the track can be folded away from any arches or doors to give clear access.
The next question to ask yourself is: what kind of stairlift do you require?
Some homes will require a curved stairlift, which is able to go round bends in the staircase and glide across landings or half landings. A curved staircase will be made to order, to fit the specific dimensions and requirements of your home.
If you also struggle with the steps leading up to your front door or out into your garden, then an outdoor stairlift is ideal.
